Larry read a thank you note from the Taste of Haverling.

Larry read a request from the Jack Lisi Award group. We agreed to contribute.

District Assembly is this Saturday in Geneseo.

The grant application for Duffy Books was sent in and we received confirmation of it being received.

The literacy award paperwork was also sent in.

The District Conference in Vermont is at the end of the month. We have a good group attending.

The Changeover Dinner is June 25th.

The Corning Community Concert Band is Thursday, June 26th.

The Red Door cafe lunch had a huge crowd today. The free lunch is the first wednesday of the month at the St. Thomas church. Our members have led this program and it continues to provide an enormous benefit to our community.

Terry read our Rotary Foundation Moment.

Carol Wood is our speaker and describes the 211 program and all the help it offers. They do an enormous amount of assistance in 5 counties.

The 50/50 was won by Paul. He donated his $7 to Camp STAR.

The Sunshine brought in $26.

Last week’s meeting was canceled due to weather.

Terry read the Rotary Foundation Moment from Rotary President Estes in 2004 – 5.

The Taste of Haverling was an excellent event. It was noticed that there was no mention in the last edition of Haverling News. Willie will look in the next edition.

Willie and Terry have sent in the achievements and awards. Literacy, community garden, Red Door Kitchen, dictionary, and the Goodwill Dinner are among the items we submitted.

They also sent the Literacy Recognition program, library magazine subscriptions, dictionaries, required meetings, Duffy Books donations and donated books to the library in honor of the District President. We are done with our requirements for the Literacy Award.

The matching grant application is due. We are submitting a grant for Duffy Books in the Hammondsport School System.

Terry has not heard back from the RYLA candidate. He is communicating with the Guidance Counselor. A recommendation was made to invite the candidates and guidance counselor to a meeting. We will have a catered dinner for that meeting.

The District Assembly is April 5th in Geneseo. We need to bring a door prize.

District Conference is May 2nd in Burlington, VT. Terry, Willie, Kathy, Larry, and June are all attending.

Carmen spoke about her awesome time at the Watkins Glen meeting.

Kathy told us about her experiences at the PETS conference. “Light Up Rotary”.

We have a Club Assembly scheduled for April 23rd to go over Club Goals.

Paul won the 50/50 and gave $6 to breakfast for James.

The Sunshine brought in $30.

Reports from the Pinewood Derby and the Taste of Haverling events.

Carmen is attending the Watkins Glen meeting tomorrow.

Kathy is attending the PETS conference this month.

Carmen is writing the grant for Duffy Books.

James from the Red Door Kitchen in Bath spoke to our club about the struggles of being homeless. The problems finding assistance, especially in getting glasses fixed are incredible. The need for shelters for the homeless is inexcusable.

James won the 50/50 and won $19.

We are selling Subway tickets for Super Bowl weekend.

Next week’s program is the Waterloo club discussing the next district conference. The program in two weeks is our monthly excursion into a local restaurant.

Richard Frey and his mother described their trips to New England and Williamsburgh, VA. The Maine and Vermont trip included trips to the Grand Canyon of Vermont, Abraham Lincoln’s brother’s estate in Manchester, Vermont and an incredible chocolate dessert. The pictures were awesome. We can’t thank the Frey’s enough for entertaining us. We look forward to their next trip.

Larry won $7 with the 50/50 and donated it to Camp STAR.

The Sunshine brought in $27.

Community Dialog With the United Way

November 13, 2013

The Rotary Club of Hammondsport , in cooperation with United Way of the Southern Tier, will host a community dialog session at 6 p. m. Wednesday, November 13, in the community room at the Taylor Memorial Library.

This conversation is an opportunity for the community members to share their views about life in Hammondsport, Pulteney, Wayne, and surrounding areas, including positives and opportunities for improvement. All are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Elly reported on the events we worked to raise money. We had very successful ventures of Music in the Park, the Palette Auction, and the Seaplane Homecoming.

We are working at the Storytelling Festival this weekend at the head of the lake. We are setting up at 10 and expect to work until 3.

We need two shifts 10 until 1 and 1 until 3.

October 2nd is the speaker for the Affordable Care Act. This should be a big meeting with many in the public who are interested in asking questions about the new health care act.

Larry will attend the Literacy workshop at East Rochester Saturday, Sept. 21.

The children’s read program will also be Saturday, Sept. 21.

Membership seminar will be at Dansville Saturday, Sept. 28.

Prattsburgh Rotary would like to invite your clubs to a Fall Joint Meeting on October 15th at the Prattsburgh Fire Hall. Social Time starts at 6:00pm with a little wine tasting with a Spaghetti Dinner to follow at 6:30. Dinner will include spaghetti, meatballs, sausage, bread, salad and dessert. Iced Tea, Lemonade and Milk will be provided.

The Rotary Leadership Conference will be held in Canandaigua Saturuday, Nov. 2. Larry will attend the Graduate Program. We are encouraged to pay the tuition for our newer members. Willie and Terry have attended previously.

Our speaker is Kelly Duby, the Mobility Manager for Steuben County. She works for the Institute of Human Services. Kelly is looking for drivers for the Volunteer Driver Program which helps people get to doctor’s appointments, pick up prescriptions, and grocery shopping. They need drivers on all routes and reimburse people $.56 per mile.

Elly and Gene will be here also but will be exhausted by this point.

The Storytelling event is next weekend. We will organize that at next week’s meeting.

Our speaker for the night is Gary Cox from the Finger Lakes Museum. He will be speaking on the Finger Lakes Wines. He will speak on some of the wines that we will be tasting. We will have a complimentary wine glass for everyone to take home. http://fingerlakesmuseum.org

Marietta Nye from the Hammondsport Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center is our speaker. She described the Chamber’s projects especially the past weekend’s Palette Auction. The proceeds from the Palette Auction were around $11,500.
